Melbourne based painter Sarah Altmann creates paintings that capture the everydayness of a life examined the small reflections of patterns of domesticity that become dreamlike worlds of the colour and rhythm.
Working from her studio in Highett, Sarah draws from a combination of memory and observation of the everyday. Small interactions observed and elevated to the canvas, bunches of flowers a still life or cup of tea left to go cold become exaggerated and celebrated in colour. Points of view are also challenged often reversed as if looking out from the pattern of foliage. Through the fluid use of colour and line a tapestry of luminosity evolves. A beautiful energy interweaves throughout the canvas defining pattern and shape with forms of nature.
Her dedication to developing her painting technique over several years has produced a complex yet easily recognisable style.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting and has been working as a professional artist for over twenty years.
